Myanmar Rattan Rattan is any of various climbing palms of the genera Calamus, Daemonorops, or Plectomia of tropical Asia, having long, tough, slender stems. Theses stems of palms, used to make wickerwork, canes, and furniture. Many types of Rattan furniture are available in Myanmar and there are many exporters. Rattans are also superficially similar to bamboo. Unlike bamboo, rattan stems ("malacca") are solid, and most species need structural support and cannot stand on their own. Rattans have been known to grow up to hundreds of metres long. Most (70%) of the world's rattan population exist in Indonesia, distributed among Borneo, Sulawesi, Sumbawa islands. The rest of the world's supply comes from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Myanmar. Myanmar Pearl A smooth, lustrous, variously colored deposit, chiefly calcium carbonate, formed around a grain of sand or other foreign matter in the shells of certain mollusks and valued as a gem. Pearls can have different colors such as Gold, Pink, White and Black. Found in the Andaman sea of Myanmar and the nearby islands of Myeik, Thanintharyi Division. Myanmar Emerald A brilliant green to grass-green transparent variety of beryl, used as a gemstone. Peridot A yellowish-green variety of olivine used as a gem. Found in upper Myanmar.
